Tablet Presentation
Each Film Coated Tablet Contains:
Azithromycin -
Azithromycin is a broad spectrum macrolide antibiotic. It is indicated for the treatment of the respiratory tract and genitourinary tract infections
Cefixime
It is the first generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Cefixime is stable against beta-lactamase enzymes. It inhibits the cell wall synthesis.
Therapeutic indication
- Tonsillitis
- Pneumonia
- Bronchitis
- Laryngitis
- used in sexually transmitted diseases
- used in ear infections
- Gonorrhea
Mechanism of action
Azthiromycin inhibits the synthesis of the proteins by binding with the 23S rRNA
(50 s ribosomal unit of the RNA) and prevents translocation step to occur.
cefixime shows its action by binding with the specific penicillin binding protein present inside the cell wall of the bacteria and prevent the cross- linking of the NAM and NAG by inhibiting the peptidoglycan synthetase.
Pharmacokinetics
Absorption::Both the drugs are orally absorbed
Protein binding::Azithromycin bound to proteins to a lesser extent
Cefixime is about 65% protein bound
Metabolism:
Both are metabolized in the liver
Excretion:
Both the drugs are excreted via urine
